Purpose of the Position:

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Research Associate II, S3 (Data Analyst) with expertise in hydrological modeling, geographic information systems (GIS), and Python programming. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in data analysis and preprocessing for streamflow and water quality models, contributing to research efforts related to water resource management. The position will also involve preparing results for manuscripts and presentations. This role offers an exciting opportunity to engage with state-of-the-art modeling techniques and contribute to meaningful environmental research.

Duties/Responsibilities
● Perform data analysis and preprocessing for hydrological models related to streamflow and water quality, with a focus on cleaning, transforming, and integrating diverse datasets.
● Utilize Python programming skills to automate data workflows, conduct statistical analyses, and develop custom scripts for model inputs and outputs.
● Apply Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to spatially analyze hydrological data, including the use of spatial analysis tools for watershed delineation, flow accumulation, and other relevant hydrological processes.
● Collaborate with research teams to develop and improve hydrological models, ensuring that data used is accurate, up-to-date, and appropriately preprocessed.
● Interpret model results and assist in the preparation of manuscripts, presentations, and reports to effectively communicate findings to stakeholders, researchers, and the wider scientific community.
● Contribute to project documentation, ensuring transparency and reproducibility of analysis steps, methodologies, and results.
● Keep up to date with the latest developments in hydrology, GIS tools, and data analysis methodologies to ensure continuous improvement in research workflows.

Minimum Requirements:

● Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Hydrology, Geography, Civil Engineering, or a related field
● 1.5 - 1.75 years of full-time work experience
● Proven experience in hydrological modeling, including streamflow and water quality models.
● Strong proficiency in Python for data analysis, automation, and model preprocessing.
● Experience with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software, such as ArcGIS or QGIS.
● Familiarity with hydrological model frameworks (e.g., SWAT, WRF-Hydro) and understanding of streamflow and water quality processes.
● Strong analytical skills and ability to process large datasets effectively.
● Experience with data visualization and reporting tools to communicate complex findings.
● Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to prepare scientific manuscripts and presentations for diverse audiences.
● Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.

Desired Qualifications:

● Master's degree or working towards a Master's degree preferred

Published Salary (if available):

$50,000 - $55,000
