Purpose of the Position:

The University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Treasury Accountant to support and enhance university treasury operations. This role plays a key part in managing cash flows, debt service, investments, and banking relationships, while also ensuring institutional compliance with internal controls, state and federal regulations, and bond covenants.

Reporting directly to the Director of Accounting and Financial Reporting, the position requires strong accounting acumen, analytical skills, and a proactive approach to optimizing liquidity, safeguarding university assets, and supporting long-term financial sustainability.

Duties/Responsibilities

Cash Management & Forecasting:
• Monitor daily cash positions, fund balances, and cash flow forecasts.
• Coordinate interfund transfers and ensure appropriate fund allocation.
• Analyze banking activity to support working capital needs.
• Assist with short-term liquidity planning and cash flow modeling.

Banking, Merchant Services & PCI Compliance:
• Manage banking relationships and support the implementation of treasury technology.
• Oversee merchant account setup, credit card acceptance, and compliance with PCI DSS standards.
• Support departments with cash handling and merchant-related policies and training.

Investment & Debt Accounting:
• Track and reconcile investment accounts in coordination with UAH's investment partners and fund managers.
• Assist in the administration and accounting of debt-related transactions and bond issues.
• Support bond compliance monitoring and reporting on debt service schedules.

Internal Controls, Policy, & Compliance:
• Maintain treasury policies and ensure compliance with University of Alabama System guidelines, State of Alabama requirements, and federal regulations.
• Ensure strong internal controls over cash and banking functions.
• Support financial audits and provide documentation related to treasury activities.

Financial Reporting & Analysis:
• Prepare reconciliations of cash, investments, and debt balances.
• Assist with treasury reporting for the Annual Financial Report and ad hoc financial reviews.
• Provide data and insights for rating agency reviews, disclosures, and dashboards.

Special Projects & Treasury Innovation:
• Participate in initiatives related to treasury automation, banking RFPs, or system enhancements (e.g., payment platforms, cash pooling).
• Support treasury-related components of capital projects or institutional planning efforts.

Minimum Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Minimum of 2-4 years of experience in accounting, treasury, banking, or financial
operations.
• Demonstrated experience with treasury functions such as cash flow forecasting,
investment tracking, or banking systems.
• Strong understanding of internal controls, reconciliation practices, and financial
reporting.
• Proficiency in Excel and enterprise financial systems (e.g., Banner, Oracle, PeopleSoft,
Workday).

Desired Qualifications:

• CPA, CTP (Certified Treasury Professional), or MBA.
• Experience in higher education, public sector, or nonprofit finance.
• Familiarity with university-related financial policies, state treasury procedures, and
endowment management.
• Knowledge of GASB accounting standards and NACUBO best practices.
• Experience working with external auditors and rating agencies.

Published Salary (if available):

$60,000 - $70,000
