Purpose of the Position:

The Auxiliary Teacher, OSR will provide classroom instruction, assist the lead teacher and supervise children, University students/interns, and volunteers assigned to the class.

• Arrive at work on time, follow set guidelines for requesting time off, take initiative while at work,
• Treat colleagues with respect; willingly communicate with team members; display a positive attitude; maintain confidentiality.
• Treat parents with respect and make them feel welcome at school. Maintain professional relationships with parents.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Assist lead teacher to maintain an appropriate Pre-K Classroom environment with designated learning centers.
• Work with lead teacher to ensure the social environment of the classroom should work in tandem with the physical environment to create a positive and supportive learning community.
• Lead and auxiliary teacher share instructional responsibilities, child supervision, and other classroom duties.
• Lead and Auxiliary teachers must interact with the children during learning/free choice time and gross motor time to facilitate children's play.
• Lead and Auxiliary teachers work together on Teaching Strategies Gold observations and documentation.
• Supervise and ensure the safety and well-being of children at all times, being alert for the needs and/or problems of the children as individuals and as a group.
• Assist lead teacher to plan motivating classroom activities following the approved curriculum and developmentally appropriate practice.
• Keep lead teacher and director informed in advance of program/classroom/student needs and parent concerns.
• Be familiar with and follow all UAH and Early Learning Center Policies and OSR Guidelines.
• Be familiar with and follow DHR and NAEYC program criteria.
• Handle behavior promptly and in accordance with stated school policy on behavior management. Understand and follow the principles of Conscious Discipline.
• Adhere to all safety and sanitation requirements set forth in the Minimum Standard Rules for Licensed Child-Care Centers; ensure that children are supervised and dressed appropriately.
• Interact frequently with children; encourage the use of language and independent functioning using positive reinforcement.
• Assist with educational assessments of children as part of the assessment team, if needed for a student, if directed by lead teacher or director.
• If directed, Collaborate with therapy team, if appropriate, on development and implementation of IEPs.
• Facilitate integration of children with and without disabilities in the classroom.
• Assist with children's transition to the next classroom or educational setting.
• Utilize technology and adaptive equipment as appropriate.
• Assist with training of college and high school interns/volunteers.
• Assist with research projects as indicated by the director.
• Attend regular staff planning and evaluation meetings.
• Report to director and/or lead teacher any special needs or problems of individual children.
• Attend conferences/workshops as required.
• Document each child's performance and progress with at least weekly portfolio entries, daily data records and yearly updated assessments.

Minimum Requirements:

• High school education or equivalent
• 1 year of full-time verifiable related work experience
• Must have Child Development Associate Credential (CDA) or 9 credit hours of college course work in the field of Early Childhood Education or Child Development from a regionally accredited institution
• Must have Teaching Strategies Gold experience

Desired Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree with a specialization in early childhood education is preferred
• Current CPR and/or First Aide for children Certification is desired
• Knowledge of Positive Behavior Supports/Conscious Discipline is preferred
• TB Skin Test is desired
