Purpose of the Position:

The Maintenance Worker is a key member of the UAH Facilities & Operations department, which is responsible for the planning, design, construction, renovation, maintenance, and repair of the university’s buildings and acreage. The employee performs all general maintenance-type functions to help ensure that all University facilities are properly maintained to provide an environment most conducive to study and work. Work is performed during the first shift (Monday-Friday, 7:00 AM - 3:45 PM).

Duties / Responsibilities:

• Perform general maintenance on all buildings.
• Repair classroom furniture.
• Replace ceiling tile.
• Replace broken glass.
• Repair or replace flooring, such as quarry & ceramic tile, carpet, LVP, and baseboard as needed.
• Install whiteboards, bulletin boards, TVs, and any other wall hangings.
• Replace light bulbs.
• Repair door hardware.
• Perform routine maintenance items; painting, replacing batteries in building components, and cleanup of shops and mechanical rooms, etc.
• Perform preventative maintenance on all, including but not limited to, fixed seating, bleachers, exterior doors, and roofs.
• Contribute to the improvement of the Preventive Maintenance Program. Assist in assuring that the scope of maintenance work becomes progressively more proactive as opposed to reactive.
• Perform minor roof repairs as needed.
• Perform periodic roof inspections.
• Assemble furniture.
• Perform repairs on window leaks.
• Perform repairs on window dressings.
• Perform repairs on masonry and concrete interior and exterior surfaces.
• Operate vertical lift, scissors lift, man-lift, etc.
• Process & complete all job-related documentation in a timely manner daily.
• Work with computer/tablet devices to interact with daily work orders.
• Estimate repair jobs and recommend needs.
• Perform painting and minor touch-up
• Support outside contractors during times of renovation or construction of new facilities.
• Observe closely and adhere to all safety rules and regulations as directed.
• Participate in safety-related training and exercises as directed.
• Prepare the work site by setting up necessary equipment and protecting the area from damage that might otherwise result from work activities. Leave the work site clean and orderly upon task completion. Ensure that all tools and equipment are clean and in safe working order, and all materials are secured.

Minimum Requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of three years of direct experience in the building trades, including building hardware, or a combination of trade school training and direct work experience to meet the 3-year requirement.
• High degree of independent judgment.
• Must be physically capable of performing all duties.
• This employee will be a regular driver as defined in the UAH Vehicle Safety Management Program, which includes, but is not limited to, possessing a valid driver’s license and maintaining an acceptable MVR in the judgment of the University’s insurance company.

Desired Qualifications:

• A graduate of a trade or vocational school is preferred.

Published Salary (if available):

$45,000 - $47,739
