Purpose of the Position:

Under the general direction of the police chief with a direct report to the police captain, the Night Patrol Watch Lieutenant serves as an integral member of the Police leadership team, providing management for all of the police functions for the University while serving as the night patrol watch lieutenant. To include performing administrative, supervisory, and technical staff functions in support of the Police Chief and Captain. This position will direct and coordinate the work of major elements of police duties and or support activities. The night patrol watch lieutenant oversees overall deployment planning, incident and crisis issues, supervisory and line training, and scheduling for the night shift. This is a management position at the university that, in addition to leading a work unit, leads and supervises staff directly, assist with the hiring, provides coaching, training, and mentoring, manages performance, and determines future staffing needs. This position plays a vital role also in the University’s commitment to diversity and inclusion efforts, recruitment and hiring, and developing goals for ongoing guidance, and training in supervision, leadership, personnel evaluation, and tactical response. This position is also responsible for establishing an emphasis on campus and community engagement for an increased community policing focus for the night shift.

Minimum Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in Criminal Justice, Political Science, Business or Public Administration, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and years of experience
• 5 years of increasingly responsible law enforcement experience in policing (to include 3 or more years of experience in a full-time supervisory position such as a Police Sergeant or above)
• Working Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
• Must have excellent verbal, written, and communication skills
• Must possess a valid driver’s license
• Successful completion or possession of a Peace Officer Standards and Training P.O.S.T. Management or Supervisory Certificate. Possession of, or ability to obtain within eighteen months of appointment, a P.O.S.T. Management Certificate

Desired Qualifications:

• Experience in a University or comparable non-profit environment is preferred
• Proficient knowledge of criminal law, rules, and the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act, or Clery Act is desired

Published Salary (if available):

$65,000 - $70,000
