Purpose of the Position:

The M. Louis Salmon Library at the University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) invites applications for a creative and collaborative Library Marketing and Communications Specialist. This key role is responsible for developing and implementing dynamic marketing, branding, and outreach strategies that promote the library’s services, resources, and events. The specialist will manage digital and print
communications, oversee social media presence, maintain the library website in coordination with the UAH Office of Marketing and Communications, and ensure brand consistency across all channels. In addition to marketing and outreach duties, the position also supports reference services and instructional content development, contributing directly to student success and campus engagement. Duties / Responsibilities:

• Work closely with the supervisor and assist in the development and implementation of annual marketing plans to promote library services, resources, and events to the UAH campus community.
• Ensure consistent use of logos, fonts, colors, and messaging across all print and digital communications.
• Serve as the library’s liaison to the UAH Office of Marketing and Communications to ensure alignment with university branding and communication standards.
• Coordinate communication efforts across campus departments to promote library initiatives and events.
• Write, edit, and design newsletters, using EMMA, and maintain subscriber lists.
• Manage and maintain the Salmon Library blog and website (using Joomla and HTML), ensuring content is accurate, accessible, and user-friendly.
• Produce marketing materials, including flyers, posters, videos, social media graphics, and digital signage, using tools such as Canva, Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Premiere, Audition), Microsoft Office, and open-source tools (such as GIMP, Audacity, Scribus).
• Prepare and generate annual library report, highlighting key metrics, milestones, and impact stories.
• Ensure all marketing materials are documented, archived, and compliant with intellectual property laws (copyright, trademark, public domain, Creative Commons).
• Manage the library’s social media presence (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, YouTube), staying current on best practices and university guidelines.
• Promote library and campus events through digital platforms, social media, and physical outreach materials.
• Collaborate with campus departments, student organizations, and external groups to amplify messaging and promote shared initiatives.
• Collaborate with library faculty on the design of online instructional content, LibGuides, tutorials, and other learning objects aligned with academic programs and general education needs.
• In coordination with the UAH Office of Marketing and Communications, maintain and update library website content to support user engagement and student success.
• Provide reference assistance and contribute to instructional programming as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, graphic design, library science, or a related field with 2-5 years of full-time work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience in content creation, marketing strategy, and social media management.
• Excellent written and visual communication skills.
• Proficiency in digital tools, such as Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, and Microsoft Office.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.

Desired Qualifications:

• Experience in an academic, library, or nonprofit setting.
• Familiarity with HTML, Joomla, and accessibility guidelines.
• Experience developing multimedia content (video, audio, photography).
• Understanding of copyright and branding best practices.

Published Salary (if available):

$42,000 - $46,000
