Purpose of the Position:

The Accounts Payable Manager will oversee the Accounts Payable (A/P)
team to ensure accurate and timely processing of payments to suppliers and reimbursements to faculty, staff, and students. This role will ensure compliance with applicable tax regulations and reporting requirements and university policies. The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker who drives process improvements and optimizes payment channels to generate rebate revenue and improve working capital.

Duties/Responsibilities

• Supervise the A/P team to ensure efficient and accurate processing of invoices
and payments.
• Develop and implement A/P policies and procedures to enhance efficiency and compliance.
• Monitor the day-to-day operations of the A/P department, including payment runs, reconciliations, and month-end closing activities.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations, including 1099 and other relevant tax filings.
• Prepare and review reports related to accounts payable activities, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
• Coordinate audits and provide necessary documentation and explanations to auditors.
• Analyze and optimize payment processes to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
• Identify opportunities to generate rebate revenue through strategic use of payment channels.
• Implement best practices in working capital management to optimize cash flow and reduce costs.
• Manage relationships with vendors to ensure timely and accurate payments.
• Resolve disputes and discrepancies with vendors and internal stakeholders.
• Negotiate payment terms and conditions with vendors to benefit the university's financial position.
• Lead, mentor, and develop the A/P team to build skills and enhance performance.
• Conduct regular performance reviews and provide constructive feedback to team members.
• Foster a collaborative and positive work environment.

Minimum Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
• Minimum of 5 or more years of full-time work experience in accounts payable or related finance roles, (of which should include at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial position).
• Strong knowledge of accounts payable principles, practices, and regulations.
• Experience with ERP systems, preferably Banner, and proficiency in Microsoft Office
Suite.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of staff and management.
• Demonstrated ability to lead and develop a team.

Desired Qualifications:

• Experience in a public university or higher education environment.
• Proven track record of implementing process improvements and optimizing payment channels.

Published Salary (if available):

65,000-75,000
