Purpose of the Position:

The PTAC Counselor counsels and assists small business clients in a seven county North Alabama Region through appointment-based confidential one-on-one advising research and training on how to contract at all levels of Government Agencies (local, city, state and federal) to sell products and services. The primary responsibilities of the PTAC Specialist is to act as an instructor, coach or mentor, and maintain and develop excellent communication between the PTAC program staff and its clients, potential clients and the communities. The program ensures businesses understand how to find, bid win, and perform on government contracts and sub contracts, and comply with post-award terms and conditions. The PTAC Specialist provides a variety of services through phone contact, e-mail, web-conferencing, presentations, the PTAC website, and social media. The incumbent also serves as the bridge between business and government contracting collaboration providing outreach to the community through regular engagement with campus partners, local government entities, Chamber of Commerce, Economic Development Councils, service clubs, and community organizations.

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university and/or successful equivalent education and years of experience in professional consultation in business development or government contracting/5-7 years of full-time verifiable work experience in government contracting/proficient in MS Office Suite to include Word, Excel and PowerPoint/demonstrated knowledge and understanding of government contracting processes, policies and procedures/working knowledge of SAM system, and small business system/must have excellent interpersonal, organizational, and verbal and written communication skills/must have a valid driver’s license

Desired Qualifications:

Master’s degree is preferred/previous government contracting experience as a buyer, purchasing agent is desired/business ownership experience is preferred/experience in financial reporting and budgeting is desired/grant management and federal funding compliance experience is strongly preferred/business planning and development skills is desired/experience in assisting small businesses in working through various procurement processes at a college or university is preferred.

Published Salary (if available):

$26.00 - $28.00 hourly
