Purpose of the Position:

The Nurse Practitioner serves the specialized needs of a diverse student, faculty, and staff population. The NP will be responsible for the delivery of primary and urgent care, conducting medical histories and physical examinations, preventative care and health clearances for students and/or employees as required by their program.

Duties/Responsibilities
• Educate patients about self-management of acute or chronic illnesses.
• Participate in continuing nursing education and training to keep abreast of current developments in the industry.
• Serve as a clinical resource for RNs, LPNs, CMAs, lab personnel, and patient account specialists.
• Provide high-quality primary, episodic, and chronic care, as well as specialty health care services and health promotion to clinic patients. Provide gynecological care, sexual health, and family planning services on a primary care level.
• Obtain and interpret patients’ history, symptoms, physical findings, or diagnostic information to develop appropriate diagnoses.
• Conduct, order, perform, or interpret the results of diagnostic tests such as laboratory results, EKG’s, and imaging studies.
• Develop appropriate treatment plans, perform diagnostic screenings, and provide preventative care such as immunizations based on evidence-based practice guidelines.
• Recognize signs of mental or emotional illness in patients, provide care coordination and refer for appropriate behavioral health evaluation and treatment.
• Prescribe medications based on efficacy, safety, and cost as legally authorized.
• Counsel patients about drug regimens, possible side effects or interactions with other substances.
• Maintain daily clinical notes for every patient contact. Maintain accurate and detailed medical records confidentially, and document daily interactions with students, parents, faculty, and staff according to relevant local, state, and federal laws as well as University policies, guidelines, and procedures.

Minimum Requirements:

• Master’s degree in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited institution, and Board Certified as a Nurse Practitioner
• 0-3 years of work experience as a Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner (CRNP)
• Must be licensed as a Registered Nurse in Alabama/must have proficient computer skills
• Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills

Desired Qualifications:

• 3 years of experience as a licensed Registered Nurse is preferred
• Knowledge of current health, mental health, alcohol and other drug, and social issues on university campuses, and experience in a college health setting is strongly preferred
• Knowledge of an electronic health record system is desired

Published Salary (if available):

76,684-93,600 (36.84-45/hr)
