Purpose of the Position:

The Postdoctoral Research Associate provides Model-Based Systems Engineering research support to the modeling and simulation of aerospace systems within a digital engineering environment, including the incorporation of Bayesian reasoning to evaluate digital prototype/digital twin characteristics concerning suitability for intended use.

Duties/Responsibilities

Develop and validate Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) Integrated Systems Models (ISM) as digital prototypes of aerospace systems based on an ontological foundation to enable evolution into a digital twin and artificial intelligence reasoning for evaluation including completeness, uncertainty, consistency, and emergence.
Develop and validate Model Based Engineering (MBE) frameworks that enable verification, validation, and accreditation including flight certification of aerospace systems incorporating new technologies and new aerospace system configurations against existing regulatory regimes which do not specifically address the new techologies and configurations
Assist Complex System Integration Laboratory (CSIL) and Propulsions Research Center (PRC) faculty in development of concepts and writing associated research proposals
Assist CSIL and PRC faculty and staff with additional duties as needed.

Minimum Requirements:

• Ph.D. degree in Aerospace Systems Engineering
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Model-Based Systems Engineering tools, (e.g. SysML, Dassault CATIA Magic System of Systems Architect)
• Aerospace System Modeling and Simulation tools, (e.g. Matlab/Simulink, ANSYS System ToolKit).
• Professional experience with relevant government, industry, and academic research and development organizations, (e.g. NASA MSFC, private industry, academic faculty).

Desired Qualifications:

• 24-36+ months of directly related full-time verifiable work experience.

Published Salary (if available):

$52,216 - $65,000
