Purpose of the Position:

The HRIS & Payroll Analyst fills a critical role in supporting the data analysis, data entry, and data conversion associated with the successful implementation of HCM Oracle. Post implementation, this position will support ongoing HRIS enhancements and accurate and timely processing of HR transactions. This role ensures data integrity across all HR transactions, supports system configuration and reporting needs, and provides customer service to employees, departments, and HR partners. The position acts as a key liaison between HR, Payroll, Finance, and IT to ensure efficient, compliant, and reliable HR operations.

Duties/Responsibilities

PAYROLL
• Prepare, audit, and process payroll transactions for all employee groups (staff, faculty, students, and temporary).
• Review and validate timekeeping data, leave balances, deductions, and job/position changes to ensure accurate payroll outcomes.
• Research and resolve payroll discrepancies; coordinate corrective actions with HRIS and Financial Affairs team members.
• Demonstrated knowledge of payroll compliance requirements, including FMLA and other covered leaves, FLSA regulations, overtime compliance, labor distribution, and W-2 processing.
• Support year-end payroll activities and audit requests.
• Serve as backup for backup to other general payroll tasks

HRIS AND DATA INTEGRITY
• Manage data entry, updates, and audits in the HRIS to ensure accuracy of employee records, job/position assignments, demographics, and compensation.
• Monitor workflow approvals and troubleshoot system routing issues.
• Perform routine and ad-hoc data audits to identify and correct inconsistencies.
• Partner with IT/OIT to coordinate system enhancements, upgrades, testing, and issue resolution.

OTHER

Reporting & Analytics
• Build and maintain standard HR and payroll reports, dashboards, and ad-hoc queries (e.g., ARGOS, Oracle, Banner, Cognos, or equivalent).
• Provide data for compliance reporting, budget planning, salary analysis, and internal audits.
• Translate reporting results into clear recommendations for HR leadership.

Customer Service & Cross-Functional Support
• Serve as a resource to employees and managers regarding payroll, HRIS transactions, pay calculations, and self-service functionality.
• Develop and maintain documentation, desk guides, and training materials for HR processes and system workflows.
• Provide training to departments on HRIS transactions, payroll deadlines, and data entry standards.

Compliance & Process Improvement
• Ensure payroll practices comply with federal/state laws, university policies, and audit standards.
• Recommend and implement process improvements that increase accuracy, efficiency, and automation.
• Participate in system modernization or ERP implementation efforts (data migration, testing, workflow design, functional review).

Minimum Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, Accounting, Information Systems, or
related field and 2+ years of relevant experience (or an equivalent combination of education and experience_.
• Knowledge of payroll rules, HR processes, data integrity standards, and systems
workflows.
• Experience with enterprise HR/Payroll systems (such as Banner, Oracle Cloud, Timeclock Plus,
etc.).
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Power BI, and ad hoc reporting/query tools.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Ability to manage sensitive information with confidentiality and accuracy.

Desired Qualifications:

• Experience with Banner HR/Payroll modules or similar higher-education ERP systems.
• Experience with ARGOS or institutional reporting tools.
• Familiarity with FLSA classification, labor compliance, and payroll auditing.

Published Salary (if available):

$60,000 - $65,000
