Working with the latest software tools (e.g., Student Success Collaborative dashboard and data, Degree Works, Banner), Academic advisors alert struggling students about programs that may be more appropriate to their skills and preferences.• Degree advisor for Communication Arts, English/Writing, History, Interdisciplinary Studies, Philosophy, Pre-Law and World Languages and Cultures. • Student recruiting: Academic advisors assist with all aspects of student recruiting.• Career Direction: Academic advisors ensure that students take advantage of all career path assistance available to them on campus. The primary result expected from properly carrying out these duties is student retention and success.Duties / Responsibilities: • Provides a full range of academic advising, services, to all College of Arts, Humanities and Social Science students about content and structure of postsecondary programs including graduation and/or transfer requirements for a particular program of study. • Correspond in-person, telephone, email, and-or by virtual appointment with prospective students and parents for review of academic record, general advising etc. • Interprets University policies, procedures and curriculum to faculty, staff and students to include (NCAA regulations, International rules and regulations, etc.).• Audits, monitors, and evaluates individual student academic progress. Comply with FERPA and UAH regulations regarding privacy of student information. • Follow-up with the advisee on any report of unsatisfactory work (notice of class probation for poor attendance, notice of FA and/or failing grades, incomplete grades from past semester(s), etc.). Special attention should be paid to students who are placed on academic probation. • Disseminates certificate, diploma and university transfer program information to all learners and other appropriate internal and external contacts in individual or group sessions. Evaluate transfer credit for application for specific degree programs in consultation with the Department Chair or Dean. • Begin program of study with University CAPP system or Degree Works. Work Directly with Department Chairs when requests of special admission to a course arise (e.g. class cap is reached). • Interprets testing results relevant to placement decisions; determines student readiness for College programs. • Creates and educate students in the development of an educational plan including choosing a program of study and/or clarifying educational goals. • Informs students about alternatives, limitations and possible consequences of academic decisions (e.g. adding, dropping and withdrawing from courses; change of program, major and/or transfer institution).• Educates students about course planning and registration processes, refers to available on-and off-campus resources to meet individual needs including career and personal counseling. • Authorizes course withdrawals, adds, and drops as required. • Advises students on and creates academic plans to ensure degree completion (Advisor II).• Serves as a resource and support to other academic advisors within same or other UAH colleges (Advisor II).• Maintains centralized student record database for reporting/assessment, maintain up-to- date knowledge about the College’s programs and requirements tracking progress towards degree and degree auditing process; utilize the latest software and tools (e.g. Banner, Student Success collaborative dashboard, Degree Works, CAPP etc.); consults with contacts at various transfer institutions regarding course and program transfer ability, admission and graduation requirements. • Maintain an up-to-date Advising Portfolio, with a summary record of performance to date (grade reports, transcript, graduation notes, current semester schedules, progress to degree requirements completed, etc.), dates of conferences, notation of special circumstances, up-to- date MyStuff information and details, and other pertinent information related to student and advising records in accordance with state/federal law and university regulations. • Displays sensitivity in addressing the unique and sometimes complex learning and socio- economic needs of students. • Process schedule adjustment paperwork and other related paperwork.• Reports and communicates regularly with the Associate Dean via email, phone etc. on issues such as at risk students, class overrides, transfer credits for Charger Foundations, permission to substitute etc. • Work in collaboration with Admissions, Financial Aid, Registrar’s Office, Student Success Center, Career Services and related units to ensure students receive clear and consistent guidance. • Participate in new student and transfer orientation as required. • Presents at student orientations and other student venues (Advisor II).• Serves as a resource to faculty in advising students within assigned college. Provide students with faculty information, and inform students regarding various university resources. • Monitors student progress and develops proactive retention plans based upon each student’s academic and socio-economic needs and circumstances (Advisor II).• Engages and supports at-risk and non-traditional students in order to promote student success and persistence (Advisor II).• Provides pre-enrollment advising which includes advising perspective students on potential courses and plans of study (Advisor II).• Makes appropriate referrals to students perceived as at-risk, acts as an advocate as appropriate. • Participates in Academic Advisor meetings and events. • Assist students with re-admission including providing advising, and recommendation for future classes, and academic success. • Participates in individual and team professional development, remains current with technology used to provide advising services. • Work in collaboration with the Assistant Dean in recruitment and outreach for secondary education (Advisor II).• Produces reports (on student matriculation, retention, etc.) to advise students, assist faculty, and improve advising outcomes (Advisor II).• Serves as a go-to person and/or trainer for new entry-level Academic Success Advisors (Advisor II).• Performs other related duties as assigned. Minimum Requirements: Academic Advisor I requirements:• Bachelor’s degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.• 0-2 Years of full-time verifiable Academic Advising experience.• Excellent verbal, written, analytical, interpersonal, and organizational skills. • The ability to navigate a diverse environment is required. Desired Qualifications: Academic Advisor II requirements: • Master's degree in Education, Counseling, or an academic field preferred.• 3-5 years of Academic Advising, or Career Development, or Coaching experience in a higher education setting desired.• Experience in a university setting is preferred.• Experience with university software including Banner, EAB, or Degree Works is preferred.• Knowledge of UAH policies and processes is preferred.• Written and oral knowledge of CAHS degree programs is desired.
