The primary focus of this role will be the interpretation, implementation, and monitoring of ADA Title II (including the forthcoming digital accessibility requirements for state and local governments) and Sections 504 and 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. The Specialist will ensure equitable access for individuals with disabilities across all university programs, services, activities, and employment practices.This position also holds secondary responsibilities for contributing to the university's broader federal anti-discrimination compliance, including aspects of Title VI, the Age Discrimination Act, Title VII, the Equal Pay Act, ADEA, and GINA, as they relate to ensuring an equitable and non-discriminatory environment for all.Duties/Responsibilities:Assessment & Design:• Serve as a subject matter expert on development-related matters and actively participate in physical and digital accessibility committee and initiatives.• Collaborate with campus partners, and academic units to support digital and physical accessibility and associated user experience.• Conduct needs assessments to identify digital and physical accessibility needs and gaps. • Serve as institutional subject matter expert on matters related to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Sections 504 and 508 of the Rehabilitation Act.• Conduct compliance and/or assessment reviews for products and services related to ADA and the Rehabilitation Act.Technological Support• Contribute to the development of guidelines and processes that support digital and physical accessibility management and processes.• Analyze and assist with the implementation of various programming languages, and software, use of sound judgment and decision-making regarding scope of work and consult digital tools, program outcomes alignment, and other factors that support an exceptional user experience.Innovation • Stay abreast of emerging technologies and workplace learning trends in order to surface new opportunities to departmental leadership, as appropriate. • Keep informed about emerging physical accessibility, digital accessibility, instructional technologies, pedagogical approaches, and assessment strategies.• Participate and assist in special projects, as needed.• Perform other duties as assigned. Minimum Requirements: • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in a relevant field such as Rehabilitation Counseling, Disability Studies, Instructional Technology, Public Administration, Law, User Experience Design, or a closely related discipline.• Three (3) to seven (7) years of full-time relevant work experience to include one to three years of experience with accessibility compliance, disability support services, accessible content development, or equivalent.• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (MS) Suite and Google Suite.• Highly-developed skills working with a Learning Management System (LMS) and online learning content development.• Familiarity with Sections 504 and 508 of the Rehabilitation Act.• Familiarity with ADA Title II digital accessibility requirements.• Knowledge of instructional design principles and strong technical skills.• Strong understanding of assistive technologies and their role in providing access.• Demonstrated knowledge of Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 or higher.• Excellent communication (written and verbal), interpersonal, and presentation skills.• Ability to perform a variety of tasks and skills within a fast-paced office environment.• Effective decision-making capability and working independently as well as with a team. Must take initiative and know-how to prioritize tasks.• High level of accuracy and attention to detail while managing multiple tasks.• Ability to perform limited travel for training and development. Desired Qualifications: • Master's degree or higher in legal studies, public administration, disability services, adult/higher education, instructional design, or another closely related field is preferred. • Experience with the LMS, Canvas is desired.• Professional certification(s) such as Certified Professional in Accessibility Core Competency (CPACC), Web Accessibility Specialist (WAS), or similar from the International Association of Accessibility Professionals (IAAP).• Professional certification(s) in compliance, such as Certified Compliance and Ethics Professional from SCCE.• Experience working in an academic/university or government setting is preferred.• Working knowledge and experience with AV, and related audio equipment is desired.• Experience with accessibility auditing tools and methodologies.
