Louis Salmon Library at The University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) seeks an innovative, user-centered, and service-oriented IT Manager - Library to lead the administration and advancement of the library’s integrated systems and technology infrastructure. This full-time staff position requires exemplary communication skills, a collaborative mindset, and a commitment to improving library services through thoughtful, forward-looking use of technology.The IT Manager - Library serves as the technical lead for the library’s systemsenvironment, overseeing critical platforms such as Ex Libris Alma, Primo VE, Leganto, and EZProxy, aswell as a variety of vendor and in-house systems that support discovery, access, and digital content. The position also supports web services, systems integrations, and emerging technologies that improve the user experience and enhance library operations.This position reports to the Library Director, works closely with UAH’s Office of Information Technology, and supervises one full-time staff member.Duties & responsibilities:• Library Systems Administration: Administer and configure the Library Services Platform (LSP), including Alma, Primo VE, and Leganto. Monitor system performance, apply updates, and troubleshoot issues.• Authentication and Access: Manage remote access tools such as EZProxy, ensuring secure and consistent access to subscribed resources. Technology Integration: Integrate third-party platforms (e.g., Tipasa, GOBI, OCLC) with the library’s systems to improve efficiency and resource discovery.• Collaboration and Coordination: Serve as a liaison to campus IT and library vendors. Ensure systems meet institutional security standards and accessibility requirements. Facilitate smooth workflows among e-resources, technical services, and public-facing tools.• Documentation and Training: Develop and maintain documentation, procedures, and training materials for library systems. Train library staff and users on system functionality.• Supervision: Directly supervise one staff member and provide project leadership for relevant technology initiatives.• Strategic Planning: Provide leadership in assessing emerging technologies and evaluating opportunities for innovation in library services, including developments in areas such as generative AI. Minimum Requirements: Master’s degree in Library and Information Science (MLIS) or a closely related field(e.g., Information Technology, Computer Science) with relevant experience in library systems. Desired Qualifications: Web Services: Maintain and develop the library’s websites and digital tools using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and CMS platforms such as Joomla.Data Analysis and Reporting: Use analytics tools and reporting systems to evaluate librarysystem usage and inform data-driven decisions.Repository and Digital Collections: Support or collaborate on digital content platforms such as Omeka, DigitalCommons, ArchivesSpace, or similar systems.Automation and Scripting: Apply scripting or automation tools to streamline data processing and system workflows.Project Management: Lead or contribute to library technology projects, timelines, and cross-functional team coordination.
