Purpose of the Position:

 

The Aquatics & Outdoor Recreation Coordinator is responsible for all aspects of University Recreation's aquatics and outdoor recreation programming and facilities, including: staff recruitment, hiring, training and oversight; management of pool and support areas; and planning, implementing, coordinating and evaluating all aquatics and outdoor recreation programming.

Duties/Responsibilities
• Provide leadership in coordinating and promoting a comprehensive Aquatic and Outdoor Recreation program including, but not limited to: swim lessons, the student swim club, outdoor recreation trips, outdoor recreation equipment rental and the ChargerCycle rental program.
• Provide assistance in the leadership and development of short and long range program planning.
• Knowledge of policies and procedures of current and revised emergency action plans for the Aquatics and Outdoor Recreation programs, create and manage an employee database spreadsheet for incident reporting, and other area reporting on program effectiveness and evaluation.
• Supervise the independent contractors who utilize the aquatics area, including private swim instructors, physical therapists, and infant swim resource instructors.
• Develop annual aquatics and outdoor recreation program goals and appropriate evaluation and assessment metrics; regularly prepare activity, attendance and other reports.
• Recruit, hire, train, schedule, supervise, develop and evaluate 30+ part-time and student staff, including lifeguards, swim instructors, outdoor trip leaders and ChargerCycle mechanics in accordance with university guidelines and procedures.
• Monitor and assist with the aquatics and outdoor recreation revenue and expense budget; develop new and expand existing revenue streams.
• Utilize a student development approach when coaching student participants.
• Maintain recordkeeping for program evaluations and effectiveness, and recommend solutions.
• Assist the Assistant Director of Facility Operations with oversight of the aquatic facility scheduling to ensure that all user groups, both internal and external, receive adequate and appropriate use.
• Responsible for inventory and maintaining log maintenance, cleaning supplies and chemicals, in accordance with laws and regulations to maintain a safe environment.
• Attend and participate in staff meetings.
• Communicate program updates and changes as needed.
• Provide assistance and participate in special projects and activities specific to the Aquatics and Outdoor Recreation areas.
• Coordinate special events, and responsible for marketing and social media efforts specific to the programming of the Aquatics and Outdoor Recreation areas.

 

Minimum Requirements:

 

• High school education or equivalent
• 2 years of full-time verifiable related work experience
• CPR/AED/First Aid Certification

 

Desired Qualifications:

 

• Bachelor's degree is preferred
• 3-4 years of related work experience is desired
• CPR/AED/First Aid Instructor Certification is preferred
• Water Safety Instructor Certification is desired
• Lifeguard Instructor Certification is preferred

$35,750 - $37,318
