Purpose of the Position:

The University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) seeks nominations, applications, and expressions of interest for an energetic, creative, and collaborative leader to serve as the Vice Provost for Enrollment Management (VPEM). Reporting directly to the Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs, the VPEM is the lead enrollment management officer for the university and is responsible for the strategic and operational oversight of key offices, including Admissions, Financial Aid, and the Registrar. The VPEM is responsible for the development and implementation of policies and procedures related to successfully recruiting, enrolling, retaining, supporting, and graduating students as efficiently and effectively as possible.

The VPEM is a member of the Academic Affairs leadership team and leads a collaborative and integrated enrollment management effort at a public research university by working with associate deans, deans, associate vice presidents, members of the president’s cabinet, and external constituents. Productive engagement with the divisions of Student Affairs and Finance & Administration is critical to supporting students throughout the student lifecycle.

Duties include but are not limited to:

• Provide oversight and supervision of Admissions, Registrar's Office and Financial Aid departmental areas.
• Leading enrollment planning efforts by working closely with colleagues across the university and external partners to implement a multi-year (5-year) strategic enrollment management plan;
• Evaluating effectiveness of the multi-year strategic enrollment management plan continuously and modifying it as needed;
• Working with the Office of Institutional Research Effectiveness and Assessment to provide accurate short- and long-term enrollment projections;
• Collaborating across Academic Affairs and Student Affairs to ensure a coordinated campus culture and strategy focused on student success that eliminates equity gaps;
• Formulating metrics, policies, and procedures for establishing and achieving objectives in student recruitment, enrollment, marketing, communications, registration, financial aid, testing, retention, and graduation;
• Collecting and using data and analytics to inform enrollment management decisions;
• Providing regular updates and reports on progress to meet enrollment goals and objectives;
• Leading efforts to educate the campus about strategic enrollment management, current trends, and forecasting related to meeting enrollment goals and objectives;
• Collaborating with campus partners in marketing the campus, colleges, academic programs, and co-curricular opportunities to engage with prospective applicants and their families;
• Segmenting out current and new markets for recruitment, marketing, communication, yield, and enrollment; and
• Leading efforts to establish positive working relationships with high school, community college, and community partners.

Minimum Requirements:

• Master's degree in a relevant field from an accredited university
• 5 years of progressively responsible experience in enrollment management across the full student lifecycle
• Progressively responsible experience supervising staff
• Leadership and management skills; ability to motivate and mentor staff
• Experience managing complex budgets
• Demonstrated success in the area of enrollment management encompassing recruitment, enrollment, retention, and graduation
• Technical skills and understanding of enrollment management databases, communication software, and related business processes
• Understanding of faculty and staff roles in recruitment, registration, advising, student success, and retention
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Capacity to establish effective working relationships, particularly at the peer level and with faculty and deans
• Knowledge of current issues in recruitment and retention

Desired Qualifications:

• Terminal degree
• Seven years of progressive enrollment management experience
• Demonstrated success in developing and implementing modern and proactive enrollment strategies
• Involvement in professional associations and organizations related to strategic enrollment management and/or overall student success.
• Functional and industry acumen regarding virtually all aspects of enrollment management, including predictive modeling, geo-demography, web-based recruitment, social media, financial aid navigation strategies, and other technological applications
• Entrepreneurial spirit with a willingness to take calculated risks, innovate, and take advantage of opportunities
• Demonstrated experience in leading processes of organizational change
• Experience using campus-based technologies for enrollment management, including Student Information System (Banner), CRM (Slate), and other similar categories of software; willingness to learn and exploit new technology resources

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
• Demonstrated success in developing and carrying out assessment of strategic goals
• Demonstrated fiscal administration skills, including overseeing budgets, developing budget proposals, and reconciling expenditure reports
• Effective verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to present complex information in understandable formats
• Working knowledge of relevant software applications, including desktop software, database systems, customer relationship management systems, and enterprise student administration systems
• Demonstrated understanding of financial aid strategy to support new and continuing enrollment
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and appropriately handle sensitive communications
• Ability to research and analyze complex information
• Ability to communicate with constituents in a professional and respectful manner
• Ability to develop positive working relationships with administrators, staff, students, faculty, and general public
• Ability to work well independently and as part of a team
• Ability to be successful in a fast-paced and detail-oriented environment
