Purpose of the Position:

The Marketing Communications Specialist develops and executes strategic marketing and communications initiatives that enhance the College of Engineering’s visibility, reputation, and student recruitment and engagement. The position manages digital, social media, multimedia, advertising, website, events, and written communications while evaluating results and providing recommendations to support the College’s strategic goals.

Key Responsibilities Include

• Work closely with the Dean to plan, develop, maintain, and execute the marketing, communications, and event strategy for the College of Engineering to promote and recruit for undergraduate, graduate, and non-credit programs to enhance the image and reputation of the College.

• Exercise independent judgment with matters of significance to the College’s marketing and communication projects.

• Write, proofread, and edit content for internal and external communications to include email marketing, digital advertising, college-level recruitment materials, website pages, and stories/news releases.

• Proactively participate in the creative cycle of story and program origination and storytelling in partnership with the Dean, including creation, approval, revision, and removal.

• Curate and edit the UAH Event Calendar and the events' descriptions.

• Plan, manage, and execute events to include arranging and securing facilities, signage, promotion, publicity, displays, audio/visual requirements, catering, logistics, and the invitation list.

• Consistently evaluate the effectiveness and feedback of communications; assess and make revisions for improvements.

• Manage social media pages, etc., and review new technologies for the College.

• Manage, maintain, and create content for social media channels.

• Identify media and images that can accompany stories, and manage multimedia inventory.

• Create and edit multimedia and design materials for internal and external communications.

• Assist in the development of digital advertisements and provide activity reports and insights on digital efforts to the Dean.

• Assist with departmental project management and coordination. Provide programmatic support for the college as needed.

• Collect and analyze market research data (surveys, customer interviews, etc.) to determine and shape internal and external marketing and communications needs.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and years of experience.
• 3-5 years of full-time verifiable professional work experience in marketing or communications, including social media platforms and email marketing.
• Must have experience with basic photography and/or videography, graphics creation, programming (Adobe Creative Suite, Canvas, web content management systems (Joomla preferred), email marketing systems (Emma preferred), and survey creation software (Qualtrics, Survey Monkey, Google Forms, etc.)
• Project management experience, organization, verbal, writing, and graphics skills are required.
• Must have a demonstrated ability to manage projects and resources effectively and set priorities in a collaborative and service-oriented culture.
• Must be a good listener, team player, and skilled communicator.
• Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Must have the ability to think and problem-solve quickly.

Desired Qualifications:

• Previous experience in a college or university environment.

Published Salary (if available):

$50,000 - $52,000
