Purpose of the Position:

A research associate position is available immediately in the area of battery characterization and modeling in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH). The research will be conducted under the direction of Prof. George Nelson. The work will involve fabrication and electrochemical characterization of solid-electrolyte batteries, synthesis and characterization of battery materials, and general support of lab management tasks. The research assistant will actively collaborate with graduate students and postdoctoral researchers.

Duties / Responsibilities:

• Synthesize and characterize battery materials.
• Fabricate and test batteries.
• Support general lab management tasks.
• Documentation and reporting of results from experiments.

Minimum Requirements:

• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related fields; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience with battery fabrication and testing.
• Experience with materials characterization methods including X-ray diffraction.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Desired Qualifications:

• Experience with image processing and analysis is preferred.
• Knowledge of simulation for chemically reactive systems is preferred.

Published Salary (if available):

$22.00 an Hour
