Purpose of the Position:

The Senior Business Advisor, Small Business Development Center (SBDC) provides advanced confidential business counseling, training, and subject matter expertise to entrepreneurs and small businesses. The role supports business startup, growth, and sustainability through advising and training activities. Works with center director on specialized metric-aligned initiatives and training. Position includes administrative duties related to client narratives, communications, event coordination and other project related activities. 

Key Responsibilities Include

Advanced Business Counseling

• Provide advanced one-on-one counseling to startup, existing, and growth-oriented businesses.

• Advise clients with basic business startup requirements, legal entities, licensing, taxes, marketing, management, basic financial practices, and compliance.

• Support the development and review of business plans, cash flow projections, operational strategies, and financial projections.

• Provide market research reports using SBDC and the University library tools.

• Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) for specialized business topics.

• Maintain accurate client records and outcomes in the SBDC client management system.

Business Training Program Leadership & Delivery

• Lead or co-lead development and planning of SBDC training programs, workshops, and cohort-based initiatives, including coordination of event space, pre-event reminders, and post-event follow-up surveys.

• Create graphics to advertise programs on the UAH website, social media, and newsletters

• Develop training content and curriculum aligned with SBDC priorities using Canva.

• Present or co-present workshops and seminars. In-person and virtual formats.

• Mentor or support Business Advisors during training delivery as appropriate.

Program Administration, Reporting & Compliance

•  Complete required reports, data entry, and program documentation in compliance with SBDC, SBA, state, and host institution requirements.

•  Assist with scheduling, client intake, and follow-up communications.

• Provide newsletter support as needed.

•  Support reporting, performance metrics, and documentation for funded programs.

• Assist with special initiatives, pilot programs, or grant-supported activities.

• Participate in staff meetings and required professional development.

Outreach, Partnerships & Special Projects

• Represent the SBDC at community, economic development, and partner events.

• Promote SBDC services to potential clients and partners.

• Support strategic outreach initiatives and special projects as assigned.

• Perform other related duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field.
• Minimum 5–9 years of verifiable professional experience in small business, consulting, finance, economic development, or entrepreneurship.
• Demonstrated expertise in small business financials and operations.
• Strong communication, organizational, and presentation skills.
• Proficiency with Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, Canva, and client management systems.

Desired Qualifications:

• Experience as a business owner, senior consultant, or advisor.
• Experience leading training or cohort programs.
• Familiarity with SBDC programs or economic development programs.
• Experience serving business populations across a variety of industries and backgrounds

Published Salary (if available):

This is an on-call position. The hourly compensation range for this role is $30.45 to $38.06, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
