Applicant Login Senior Resource Manager Apply now Job no: 503647 Department: College of Science Work type: Staff Full-time Exempt Location: Alabama Categories: Administrative - Professional Purpose of the Position: The Senior Resource Manager oversees all accounting and budgeting activities for the College of Science and ensures application of accounting principles, practices, and techniques in accordance with industry standards, current laws, and University policies. This position manages resources to accomplish goals and objectives, provides guidance and direction to department administrative assistants, and serves as the college liaison to Human Resources, Accounting, and Budgeting.Duties / Responsibilities:Budget Development/Management:• Serve as chief financial advisor to the Dean and Associate Deans in all financial matters pertaining to the college. Serve on the College of Science Executive Committee.• Formulate and implement departmental budgets annually, with particular attention to funding for PT faculty, GTAs, student specialists and operating. Refine projections regularly to facilitate financial planning and transfer funds as needed for special projects and equipment.• Coordinate funding for overloads, special teaching incentives, new faculty startup, research incentives, and other special programs.• Maintain/update department and college account budget worksheet bi-weekly for payroll and monthly for operating.• Maintain access to and monitor college accounts.• Manage Foundation accounts, maintaining signature authority on accounts as necessary. Review and reconcile departmental accounts monthly.• Interface with Dean’s Office staff daily and serve on staff interview committees as needed.• Coordinate with research center personnel for issues involving College of Science faculty, staff, and student programs. Coordinate with Sponsored Programs regarding cost share agreements and funding, and consult with the COS Program and Proposal Coordinator in matters concerning research contracts and grants.HR matters:• Provide daily, weekly, and quarterly guidance to department Administrative Assistants for HR matters.• Prepare all Personnel Action Forms (ePAFs) for personnel in the Dean’s Office and for research incentives. Prepare PARFs as needed. Review and approve: (1) ePAFs for all faculty, staff, and student employees, and GRA/GTAs in the college; (2) all letters of offer for part-time faculty and graduate students, and (3) Retro eLabor. Summer Budgeting:• Guide departments in formulating and implementing summer budgets to ensure compliance with university policy, working closely with the Associate Dean in managing summer course offerings by preparing periodic revenue projections.Communication/Reporting:• Provide bi-weekly status reports to the Dean and Associate Deans on financial matters.• Provide monthly budget updates to Department Chairs.• Prepare financial reports for the college and provide financial data as required for inclusion in reports and memorandums generated by the Dean. Maintain data as needed for benchmark studies, annual reports, and accreditation. Minimum Requirements: • A Bachelor's degree in a related field and 7 years of full-time verifiable work experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. • Excellent interpersonal skills.• Proficiency in Excel, Word, Adobe Pro, Google Drive.• Experience with an Enterprise Resource Planning application, e.g., the Finance and Employee modules of Banner.• Ability to work and think independently.• Ability to manage multiple on-going tasks and prioritize time. Desired Qualifications: • A Bachelor’s degree or higher in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related financial field is preferred.• 4 or more years work experience in accounting and/or budget management roles is preferred.• Experience overseeing larger financial budgets and working with senior leadership is desired.• Experience in a University or higher education environment is desired.
