Purpose of the Position:

The Research Scientist II, Step 2, will support the testing and development of the MaGIXS-3 solar flare campaign sounding rocket mission. The selected candidate will play a lead role in ground calibration testing, perform data analysis, and actively participate in the MaGIXS-3 launch campaign. The position also includes providing technical support to the Principal Investigator for laboratory setup and conducting advanced X-ray detector characterization experiments.

Duties / Responsibilities:


• Help with the preparation for ground calibration and launch campaign activities for MaGIXS-3 rocket mission, including science planning, and calibration data analysis.
• Help with generation of MaGIXS-3 response functions, documentation; Perform data analysis of MaGIXS-3 and past MaGIXS-2 observations.
• Contribute to the development, design, and execution of laboratory test setup for advanced X-ray detector characterization experiment effort led by Prof. Athiray Panchapakesan; Help and support Prof. Athiray with some tutorial sessions for teaching classes.

Minimum Requirements:

• Master's degree and 1.25 - 1.5 years of verifiable, full-time work experience.
• Minimum 3 years of postdoctoral research experience; Expertise in X-ray spectroscopy and X-ray imaging techniques is required.
• Experience with deconvolving techniques in high-energy X-ray observations is required.

Desired Qualifications:

• Ph.D. in Physics, with solar physics research, specifically in solar EUV/X-ray spectroscopy, is preferred.
• Fluency in C++, FORTRAN, Python, IDL, and S-Ling is desired.
• Experience with Python Package for Modeling X-ray Reflectivity of Multilayer
Mirrors is desired.
• Experience in EUV and X-ray imaging-spectroscopic analysis from
multiple space-based observatories is desired.
• Experience in Hydrodynamic simulation of solar coronal loops using EBTEL and
Hydrad codes is preferred.
• Experience in the design, development, and characterization of X-ray multilayer mirrors is desired.
• Experience in mentoring students in grad and undergrad level is desired.

$74,000 - $78,000
