Applicant Login Medical Assistant II Apply now Job no: 502836 Department: Dean of Students Work type: Staff Full-time Non-Exempt Location: Alabama Categories: Student Affairs Purpose of the Position: The Medical Assistant will assist the providers of UAH Health Services’ on-campus clinic with patient care, obtain patient history and vitals, perform a variety of specimen collections, and routine laboratory maintenance.Duties/ResponsibilitiesDirect Patient Care:• Prepare patients for visit by performing vital signs: taking blood pressure, weight, and temperature; and reporting patient history summary.• Verify patient information by interviewing patient, recording medical history, and confirming purpose of visit.• Must maintain strict adherence to the HIPPA and FERPA privacy laws.• Assist the RN or NP with office procedures.• Perform minor medical procedures such as ear lavages, electrocardiograms, and visual acuity testing.•Perform throat or nasal swabs for respiratory in-house testing in addition to collection of specimens for urinalysis, hematology, mono and pregnancy testing etc. Ensure client's proper identification to label and match specimens.• Performing X-ray testing will be included with added training.• Keep current with CPR and AED training.Clinic Support:• Prepare treatment rooms for patient examinations, keeping the rooms neat and clean.• Keep medical supplies ready by maintaining inventory, stocking rooms/labs, and reporting low stock.• Keep clinical equipment operating by following operating instructions, maintaining supplies, performing preventive maintenance, and reporting discrepancies.• Clean and sterilize instruments, including use of autoclave, and dispose of contaminated supplies.• Assist with and track specialist and diagnostic referrals.• Cross-train with other clinic positions such as reception, medical records, and scheduling.Laboratory Procedures:• Perform a variety of laboratory tasks relevant to the activities for the collection of samples using both routine and special techniques and methods. • Adhere to strict laboratory processing techniques to ensure samples are collected and processed in a timely manner, and following quality control procedures. Maintain records of tests performed and samples taken. Process orders to send samples to off-site laboratories. • Maintain inventory of laboratory materials and track ordering of supplies. Ensure adherence to OSHA and CLIA guidelines, laboratory safety and protocols. • Perform proper storage, handling, and disposal of hazardous materials. Perform data entry for laboratory forms and other general duties as indicated.
