Applicant Login Research Engineer IV, S4 Apply now Job no: 502474 Department: Propulsion Research Center Work type: Staff Full-time Exempt Location: Alabama Categories: Research - Engineering Purpose of the Position: The Research Engineer IV will perform research and provide operational, administrative, and technical support to ensure the smooth functioning of the Charger Advanced Power and Propulsion Laboratory. This role enables timely progress in experiments supporting contracts, especially hypervelocity water jet impact, pulsed power, and high voltage (5 - 100 kV) research.Duties/Responsibilities• Serve as Team Lead for laboratory research at the Charger Advanced Power and Propulsion Lab (CAPP). • Provide leadership and direct undergraduate and some graduate Research Assistants who participate in (CAPP) research.• Prepare technical reports and papers to document research progress as needed.• Serve as lead engineer on hypervelocity water jet impact research. • Analyze and evaluate experimental results. • Design, test and calibrate instrumentation, especially high impact load sensors and pressure sensors. • Serve as technical led on laboratory activities. • Make contributions to technical report creation and preparation. • Serve as the technical lead on laboratory activities, and support research. Minimum Requirements: • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering with 5.5 years of full time work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and years of experience.• Knowledge and experience with high velocity water jet impact and instrumentation, high voltage and pulsed power experiments.• US Citizenship is required Desired Qualifications: • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering is preferred. • 6 or more years of experience is desired. • Experience supervising engineering students in laboratories is preferred. • Experience utilizing AI to speed up development process is desired.
