Purpose of the Position:

The Deputy Director of Uncrewed Systems is a leadership role responsible for overseeing and advancing the university's Uncrewed Systems programs, technologies, and research efforts supporting the growing FAA, NASA, Redstone Arsenal, AvMC, Tri-Services and Special Forces customer needs. This position will focus on driving innovation in systems development, autonomy, and counter-Uncrewed technologies, with significant responsibility for programmatic oversight, strategic direction, and team development. The Deputy Director will collaborate with external partners, industry leaders, and academic institutions while ensuring the successful execution of Uncrewed Systems related projects and research initiatives.

Duties/Responsibilities
• Lead and manage(technical, schedule, expenditures) the uncrewed programs at the Rotorcraft Systems Engineering and Simulation Center, with a strong focus on technologies, autonomy, and counter-uncrewed technologies.
• Set and execute a strategic vision for uncrewed systems research, development, and innovation, ensuring alignment with both academic objectives and external defense and commercial needs
• Work closely with the Director to develop and refine strategic partnerships with external organizations, agencies, and industry leaders
• Manage and guide the technical and operational work of the team, setting clear objectives and providing mentorship to team members
• Hold budgetary and programmatic control over the execution of uncrewed programs, ensuring financial sustainability and adherence to project timelines and goals
• Develop and oversee technology roadmaps for UNCREWED and autonomy programs, ensuring consistent and scalable growth
• Direct the execution of uncrewed research, testing, and demonstration projects, ensuring the successful delivery of innovative solutions and technology advancements.
• Contribute to and guide technical innovation in uncrewed technologies, autonomy, and counter-uncrewed solutions, remaining hands-on when necessary for key developments.
• Act as a subject matter expert, providing technical leadership and guidance to internal teams and external stakeholders
• Regularly engage with external partners, stakeholders, and agencies to build and maintain strategic partnerships

Minimum Requirements:

• Ph.D - preferably in science, engineering, or business with 11 - 12 years of full-time work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and years of work experience.
• Preferrably 14 or more years of full-time work experience
• 10 years of development in Uncrewed systems
• Security Clearance required
• US Citizenship only
• Must have Program and Project Management Experience

Desired Qualifications:

• Ph.D preferred
• Experience with PEO Aviation, PM UAS.
• Responsible for fielding multiple UAS systems in support of the DOD.
• Worked for or has a strong relationship with DEVCOM Aviation & Missile Center (AvMC).
• Worked for or has a strong relationship with Redstone Arsenal Joint Technology
Center/System Integration Laboratory JTC/SIL.
• Experience with US Army Futures Command Cross-Functional Teams with leading large and small supporting cross-functional teams.
• Technical Expert in Uncrewed Aircraft System Airworthiness and Safety.
• Acquisition Corps Member, Defense Acquisition University Engineering Level 3 Certified

$221,975 -$226,000
