Purpose of the Position:

The Academic Advisor plans and organizes effective student recruiting for the College of Nursing (CON). As an advisor, the individual will assists students with registration and program enrollment, monitors student success, and make referrals to University student support services such as the Office of Financial Aid, Student Success Center, Counseling Services, and student life initiatives.

Duties/Responsibilities
• Advise and counsel prospective students, and others concerning school/university programs, activities, and services in order to ensure their preparation for admission to graduation.
• Monitors the academic progression of pre-nursing students from initial contact to application to upper division.
• Supports retention and on-time graduation (calling campaigns, student scholarship intervention).
• Maintains and records student progress in academic programs using database systems.
• Meets with change of major students within the university.
• Collaborates with the Program Manager of Admissions and Advisement for designated programs.
• Responsible for effective and accurate Programs of Study and degree audits. Communicates with Registrar's Office as needed.
• Complies with the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) while overseeing the maintenance of complete and accurate records of progress toward degree and degree audit.
• Serve as a resource and support to faculty in advising students within assigned college.
• Communicates with other academic departments to ensure that students receive clear and consistent guidance regarding program of study.
• Communicates changes in curriculum and admissions standards and procedures.
• Learns and fully utilizes information technology related AP software to track students in the process.
• Create, prepare, proofread, edit and generate reports on specified deadlines regarding student admission, retention, stop-outs, graduation etc.
• Maintains close communication with Academic Advisors throughout the university.
• Provides individualized service assistance, and follow-up to students.
• Assist with student orientations and presentations.
• Creates checklists, flowcharts, and other documents, either online or on paper, to assist students' self-monitoring.
• Assists review of catalogs and similar online and paper documents for the college and university.
• Reviews student recruitment material, student handbook, and CON website information.
• Has basic knowledge of additional programs such as internships and student groups.
• Collaborates with the Marketing and Recruitment Coordinator to facilate student recruitment and retention.
• Plans and participates in undergraduate event activities, both off-campus and on-campus. Some travel and weekend work is expected.
• Perform other duties assigned

Minimum Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree
• 0 -2 years of Academic Advising experience
• Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Experience and knowledge with Microsoft Office Suite and Google apps to include email and calendars is required
• Must be able to travel, and work some evenings and weekends
• Must have a valid driver's license
• Must be authorized to work in the United States

Desired Qualifications:

• Reasonable administrative or Academic office experience preferred
• Knowledge of SCT Banner and comfort with computer applications is desired
• Previous experience in a college or university setting is desired

Published Salary (if available):

$42,500 - $44,000
