Purpose of the Position:

The Postdoctoral Research Assistant II will work on an NIH-funded R01 project that seeks to understand the conversion of stem cells into chondrocytes. This individual will collaborate closely with scientists and engineers of diverse backgrounds (bioinformatics, synthetic biology, immunology, chemical, and biomedical engineering) in global research institutes.

Duties/Responsibilities
• Perform research by planning and executing experiments.
• Culture sheep MSC in 3D biomaterial under ultrasound in inflammatory conditions.
• Culture human MSC in 3D biomaterial under ultrasound in inflammatory conditions.
• Culture human MSC in 3D biomaterial under growth-factors in inflammatory conditions.
• Conduct mechanistic studies
• Prepare samples for RNASEQ analyses at DLS-Huntsville
• Analyze bioinformatics data
• Prepare reports, patents, and proposals to include written and oral communications regarding the progress of research projects.
• Assist with manuscript preparation

• Analyze experimental data
• Uphold all RNASEQ data onto NIH Reporter website
• Lead special projects as assigned
• Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements:

• Ph.D. with 21 months (1.75 years) of full-time work experience
• Prior hands-on experience in one or more of these areas: cell biology, biochemistry, biomaterials, RNASEQ, bioinformatics, or small animal models
• Experience with culture of human and sheep mesenchymal stem cells (MSC)
• Scaffold technology. Hydrogel technology
• Ultrasound stimulation of cells and tissues.
• Western blotting and RTPCR analyses
• Data reduction via bioinformatics
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Desired Qualifications:

• Ph.D. in Bioengineering, or Biotechnology is preferred

Published Salary (if available):

$52,786 - $55,000
