This position utilizes a basicunderstanding of both theoretical and practical IT network administration concepts to achievespecific technical objectives within the context and confines of university policies andestablished industry standards. Incumbents must be able to analyze problems, effectivelycommunicate proposed solutions and work independently.Duties/ResponsibilitiesApply professional technical knowledge and experience to variable situations in efforts to:• Collaboratively research and plan new strategies for network operation that support requirements for optimal performance, security, innovation, and cost efficiencies. (As needed)• Perform industry-standard system administration and management tasks in accordance with established change management procedures. (Daily)• Install, configure, update, and maintain wired and wireless network devices in accordance with industry-standard best practices and established configuration standards. (Daily/weekly)• Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software, and connectivity problems, including end-user access and system configuration. (Weekly/as needed)• Ensure continuous systems operation by responding to basic issues, problems, incidents, alerts and other notifications effectively and in a timely manner. (As needed)• Improve and maintain documentation in accordance with established OIT standards and practices. (Daily)• Document configurations, procedures, problems, and resolutions for future reference. (Daily)• Expand role-specific and general IT professional knowledge base in self and others. (Daily)• Participate in knowledge-transfer assignments, mentoring activities, work-shadowing assignments, etc. (As assigned)• Work with the Network team to design and implement IT solutions. (As needed)• Coordinate group efforts on IT projects. (As needed)• Perform Other Duties as Assigned Minimum Requirements: • Bachelor’s degree • A minimum of 4 years of full-time relevant work experience in an IT environment.• Self-starter with good time management skills.• Ability to read, write and speak to communicate with employees, customers, suppliers, in person, on the phone, and by written communications in a clear, straightforward, and professional manner.• 1+ years’ experience administering Cisco Unified Communication servers and devices Desired Qualifications: • 1+ years’ experience as a network administrator, ideally in a multi-platform academic environment• 1 year experience administering Cisco network devices• 1 year experience administering Ruckus network devices• 1 year experience managing a switched network infrastructure• 1 year experience managing IPAM operations• 1 year experience managing Help Desk and network management software•. 1+ years' programming experience• At least 3 years’ IT experience in relevant positions• CCNA, or the ability to obtain it• Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities.• Ability to present technical ideas and concepts clearly and concisely.• Capacity to conduct research into issues and products as required.• Desire and aptitude to learn information technology functions and processes.• Ability to operate effectively in a fast-changing environment that demands flexibility and quick, self-directed learning.
