The incumbent is responsible for selecting the specific tools, techniques, and computer codes used in his/her research, in consultation with Florinski.Duties/Responsibilities• Conduct scientific research in the framework of SHIELD DRIVE Science Center (DSC) aimed at understanding the interaction between the heliosphere and the surrounding local interstellar medium (LISM). • Develop and support computer models to simulate the various aspects of the heliosphere-LISM interaction, including the flows of ionized and neutral gases, the transport of energetic charged particles, such as cosmic rays, and the evolution and transport of turbulent fluctuations. • Investigate these processes in the context of Voyager, IBEX, and New Horizons spacecraft observations. Minimum Requirements: • Ph.D. in Physics, Astrophysics, Space Science, Plasma Physics or a related field with 2 - 2.5 years of full-time verifiable work experience (Bachelor's or Master's degree required).• Intermediate level knowledge of plasma physics.• Knowledge of computational methods for physical sciences. Desired Qualifications: • Expert level knowledge of plasma physics, • Knowledge of computational methods for fluid dynamics, plasma kinetics, stochastic processes, or similar subjects.• Expertise in the C/C++ programming languages and the Linux OS.
