Purpose of the Position:

The University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) is seeking a Risk Management Analyst I to support our institution in identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks. The Risk Management Analyst will play a vital role in safeguarding the institution and promoting a culture of safety, risk awareness, and compliance with life-safety codes.

The Risk Management Analyst will be responsible for day-to-day insurance claims management (property, auto, work-related, etc.), accident and incident investigations, administration of the on-the-job injury program, and will conduct risk assessments as needed. This vital position will provide awareness and policy training for risk management and life-safety matters.

Duties/Responsibilities
• Occupational Injury Claims Management: Work with employees, supervisors, health care providers, and insurers to manage the day-to-day aspects of the university occupational injury program.
• Data Analysis: Collect and analyze data to evaluate the impact and probability of identified risks, and produce reports to facilitate informed decision-making.
• Insurance and Claims Management: Assist in managing the institution's insurance portfolio, including policy renewals, claims, and ensuring adequate and appropriate coverage.
• Emergency Response Planning: Contribute to the development and maintenance of emergency response and crisis management plans, ensuring they are up to date and effective.
• Life-Safety Code Compliance Oversight: Monitor and report on compliance with relevant life-safety laws and regulations, and assist in developing strategies to address non-compliance issues.
• Training and Awareness: Develop and deliver training programs to promote risk-awareness and compliance among faculty, staff, and students.
• Incident Investigation: Participate in incident investigations and work with relevant departments to identify incident root causes and develop corrective action and/or risk mitigation plans.
• Day-to-day management of the Vehicle Safety Management Program policy, including MVR reviews and driver training compliance reviews.
• Other duties as assigned.
• Risk Assessment: Identify potential risks across various areas of the institution, including but not limited to, life-safety, operations, motor vehicle use, and emergency planning.
• Documentation and Reporting: Maintain comprehensive records and reports related to insurance costs, insurance claims, occupational injury claims, incident reports and investigations, and other risk-related matters.

Minimum Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in a related field, such as Risk Management, Business Administration, Finance, or a related discipline or an equivalent combination of education and years of experience.
• 2-3 years of full-time verifiable work experience in risk management, insurance, or a related field
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess and interpret data effectively.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the capability to communicate complex risk concepts in a clear and understandable manner.
• Knowledge of risk management frameworks and methodologies.
• Familiarity with relevant federal and state laws and regulations in higher education.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• The ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.

Desired Qualifications:

• Master's degree in a related field, such as Risk Management, Business Administration, Finance, or a related discipline, is preferred.
• Prior claims management (property or auto) is desired.
• Prior work-related injury claims management is preferred.
• Prior experience in the higher education sector is a plus.

Published Salary (if available):

$55,000 - $60,000
