Data Scientist Positions at The University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH)

The University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) is seeking qualified data scientists with a PhD in a relevant science discipline and a strong background in computational sciences or data management/informatics. These positions offer unique opportunities to explore and contribute to groundbreaking science data management techniques and research, working in collaboration with NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) under the NASA Office of the Chief Science Data Officer (OCSDO).

Role: A data scientist at UAH is a knowledge worker who leverages complex and massive science data resources characteristic of the current data-driven era. This involves a broad set of principles for data collection, storage, integration, analysis, inference, communication, and ethics.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Develop data management capabilities: Create new possibilities for data management practices by applying advanced tools, AI/ML techniques, and scientific knowledge management systems.
  2. Cultivate policy lifecycles: Propose, develop, and implement structured, scalable policies for scientific data management and governance.
  3. Perform basic research: Innovate data management processes, and develop new algorithms and AI models to facilitate more efficient, transparent information administration. Support the research lifecycle to extract insights from growing data archives.

Qualifications:

  • Experience in scientific data management, governance, and advanced analytics, including AI/ML applications
  • A record of peer-reviewed publications, data, and code
  • Familiarity with FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable) principles for scientific data management and stewardship
