The Computer Scientist II needs a strong deep learning background to build Foundation models for the Inter-Agency Implementation and Advanced Concepts Team (IMPACT) in the Earth Systems Science Center.

NASA's IMPACT Project Office monitors trends and progressions across the informatics, data science, and information technology communities to inform strategy and develop effective solutions for Earth science data management and dissemination. Additionally, the IMPACT Project Office provides a broad user perspective as to how NASA Earth science data and information are represented and communicated. The IMPACT project fosters cross-community collaborations in order to improve all phases of the Earth science data life cycle, including processes, policies, engineering, and information communication.

Duties / Responsibilities

• Assist in leveraging NASA's diverse science data sets along with large-scale computing resources to fast-track advancements in LLMs, computer vision, and multimodal systems, ensuring our Foundation model team stays at the forefront of innovation in science.
• Design and implement strategies for the collection, analysis, or display of data.
• Work with large teams including external collaborators; communicate in written and oral format with UAH and NASA IMPACT team members.
• Write peer-reviewed publications and other reports, as needed.

• Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and years of experience
• Minimum of 21 months of full-time verifiable work experience
• Proven experience in Generative AI applications
• Working knowledge of Language Models
• Extensive experience in Python, C, C++
• Proven experience in Foundation Models and Machine learning tools
• Excellent communication skills

• Experience writing peer-reviewed papers
• Experience writing proposals
