Purpose of the Position:

The Computer Scientist IV needs a strong deep learning background to build Foundation models, including multimodal systems, for the Inter-Agency Implementation and Advanced Concepts Team (IMPACT) in the Earth Systems Science Center.

Duties / Responsibilities
• Leverage NASA's diverse science data sets along with large-scale computing resources to fast-track advancements in LLMs, computer vision, and multimodal systems, ensuring our Foundation model team stays at the forefront of innovation in science
• Work with large teams including external collaborators; communicate in written and oral format with UAH and NASA IMPACT team members
• Present research findings
• Write peer-reviewed publications and other reports, as needed

Minimum Requirements:

• Master's degree in Mathematics, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and years of experience
• Minimum of 5.5 years of full-time verifiable work experience, (to include 3 years in both applied research experience and building machine learning models for business application experience)
● Experience programming in Python or related language
● Experience with neural deep learning methods and machine learning
● Experience with LLMs or vision-based transformers and multimodal architectures
● Thorough understanding of AI/ML technology stack
● Experience in CNN, Transformer, and Graph Neural Network.
● Experience with generative deep learning models applicable to the creation of synthetic data like CNNs, GANs, VAEs, etc.
● Experience with large-scale machine learning systems such as profiling and debugging and understanding of system performance and scalability
● Experience with cross-domain/multi-task model training including datasets from diverse sources, balancing many axes of measurement in evaluation, and deploying to multiple products.
● Experience in publications at top-tier peer-reviewed conferences or journals

Desired Qualifications:

• Ph.D. in Mathematics, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and years of experience is preferred
• A proven record of grant writing experience is preferred

$102,266 - $108,707
