Purpose of the Position:

We are currently seeking a research associate to provide support to NASA SPoRT science
activities related to end-user engagement, training, product assessment, and public outreach
activities. Experience in weather analysis/forecasting products and translating complex scientific content for end-user/public consumption is strongly desired. The position will be located at the National Space Science & Technology Center in Huntsville, Alabama and will support the scientific development and application of satellite remote sensing products.

SPoRT is a NASA project to transition unique observations and research capabilities to the
operational weather community to improve short-term forecasts on a regional scale. Based at the NASA Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama, SPoRT is collaborating with the
University of Alabama in Huntsville to provide direct science support along with science and
technical coordination in the areas of weather, climate, air quality, natural disasters, satellite
remote sensing, and data science and applications.

Duties/Responsibilities
• Support new products through the collection of feedback from end-users in the weather forecasting, satellite remote sensing, tropical cyclone, agricultural, and water resource communities.
• Assist in the transition of research products to operational forecasters and decision makers.
• Develop appropriate product training, including quick-start guides, product overviews, online training modules, and training videos.
• Conduct both in-person and virtual/remote training sessions with end-users.
• Design and implement assessment plans for current and future research products.
• Participate in social media/outreach efforts through the writing of blog posts, articles, and social media posts.
• Actively recruit new partners and seek out products for transition from research to operations/applications (R2O/R2A).
• Actively participate and support SPoRT stakeholders through workshops and meetings.
• Occasional travel to major scientific conferences and meetings to present research results and to engage with end-users will be expected.

Minimum Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, Geosciences, Earth Science, or a closely related discipline.
• Experience working with the operational weather forecasting community.
• Experience using integrated weather information systems for weather analysis, forecasting, and delivery of weather briefings to end-users.
• Experience translating and delivering complex scientific content to end-users or the general public.
• Education and/or experience in one or more of the following areas: Weather Communication, Technical Training, Instructional Design, Science Writing, Technical Writing, or Science Education.
• Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
• Willingness to work closely with others in a team environment.
• Desire to engage with end-users, both in-person and virtually.
• Desire to participate in science workshops and conferences, publishing results, and producing annual reports.

Desired Qualifications:

• Master's degree in Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, Geosciences, Earth Science, or a closely related discipline.

Published Salary (if available):

$37,000 - $87,741
