Purpose of the Position:

The Maintenance Technician II is a key member of the UAH Facilities & Operations department and is responsible for the planning, design, construction, renovation, maintenance, and repair of each of the University’s 90+ buildings and 500 acres. The Maintenance Worker II performs all general maintenance type functions to help ensure that all University facilities are properly maintained to provide an environment most conducive to study and work.

Duties/Responsibilities
• Perform general maintenance to all buildings.
• Repair classroom fixtures Replace and replace ceiling tile/grid.
• Repair or replace flooring materials and baseboard as needed. Install whiteboards, bulletin boards, TV’s and any other wall hangings.
• Replace light bulbs.
• Repair door hardware.
• Perform routine maintenance items; painting, replacing batteries in building components, cleanup of shops and mechanical rooms etc.
• Perform preventative maintenance on all, but not limited to, fixed seating, bleachers, exterior doors, and roofs.
• Contribute to improvement of the Preventive Maintenance Program.
• Assist in assuring that the scope of maintenance work becomes progressively more proactive as opposed to reactive.
• Perform minor roof repairs as needed.
• Perform periodic roof inspections.
• Perform repairs on window leaks.
• Perform repairs on window dressings.
• Operate vertical lift, scissors lift, man-lift, etc.
• Observe closely and adhere to all safety rules and regulations as directed.
• Participate in safety-related training and exercises as directed.
• Prepare the work site by setting up necessary equipment and protecting area from damage that might otherwise result from work activities.
• Leave the work site clean and orderly upon task completion.
• Ensure that all tools and equipment are clean and in safe working order and all materials are secured.
• Work on-call rotation and overtime as needed.

Minimum Requirements:

• High school education or equivalent.
• 1-2 years of full-time verifiable directly related work experience in the building trades (to include experience in building hardware, or a combination of trade school training and direct work experience to meet the experience requirement).
• A high degree of independent judgment is required.
• Must possess basic computer skills.
• Must possess great communication skills to support excellent customer service.
• Must be physically capable of performing all duties.
• This employee will be a regular driver as defined in the UAH Vehicle Safety Management Program, which includes but is not limited to, possessing a valid driver’s license and maintaining an acceptable MVR in the judgment of the University’s insurance company.

Desired Qualifications:

• Graduate of trade or vocational school is preferred.

Published Salary (if available):

$35,750 - $42,000 ($17.19 - $20.19 Hourly)
