Applicant Login Research Engineer IV, Step 4 Apply now Job no: 503276 Department: Earth System Science Center Work type: Staff Full-time Exempt Location: Colorado Categories: Research - Engineering Purpose of the Position: The ESSC is in search of a Data Management and Radar Scientist to work with FARM scientists to maintain FARM-specific tactical display systems and radar siting tools, and assist with scientific analyses. Participates in FARM field activities in a variety of tasks, including driving, radar and instrumentation operation, and maintenance.Duties and Responsibilities:• Will lead software development and maintenance efforts related to tactical displays such as GURU, real-time radar, and other instrumentation data visualization, and field instrument tracking, site evaluation, and related GIS tasks, and data analysis, much of which will require in-person presence to facilitate training, supervision, collaboration, and related activities. • Works with FARM scientists to conduct analyses of tornado, hurricane, and other radar and instrumentation data.• Participates in, including travels to, domestic and foreign facility scientific, educational, and outreach missions. Minimum Requirements: • Master's degree - preferably in science, engineering, or GIS; (experience in a specialized area may be substituted for a degree); 5.5 years verifiable, full-time work experience.• Minimum of several years of experience with Linux and Windows computers. Several years of experience managing GURU tactical display systems, radar site surveying systems, and GURU radar analysis tools.• Driver's license allowing operation of vehicles up to 26,000 lb. vehicles.• Ability to travel internationally, including immunization requirements and a valid passport.• Exceptional communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work harmoniously with a wide range of constituencies, including faculty, staff, supervisors, colleagues, and students. Awareness of, and sensitivity to, cultural and linguistic differences.• U.S. Citizenship is required.
