Purpose of the Position:

The Landscaper III is a key member of the UAH Facilities & Operations department, which is responsible for the planning, design, construction, renovation, maintenance, and repair of each of the University’s 90+ buildings and 500 acres. Under the general supervision of the Landscape Supervisor, the Landscaper III will be responsible for the leadership and guidance of other Landscapers and provide high-level proficiency and skills regarding a wide array of technical landscape functions to ensure proper installation and maintenance of UAH grounds and landscape.

Duties/Responsibilities
• Lead, direct, and participate in the installation, care, and maintenance of campus turfgrass and landscaping:
• Assist Landscape Supervisor with planning landscape projects within assigned zones.
• Create, assign, and manage work order requests and project priorities for work performed by the assigned landscape crew.
• Lead assigned landscape crew in the performance of a variety of technical landscape-related duties on campus landscaping, including
proper plant placement and installation, sod installation, skilled pruning of trees, plants, and shrubs, mechanical and chemical weed
management, landscape bed edging, and mulching.
• When necessary, lead assigned landscape crew in the performance of regular turfgrass maintenance, including mowing, trimming, edging,
and blowing.
• Safely operate heavy equipment including tractors, backhoes, sweepers, and forklifts. Safely operate task utility vehicles, dump trucks,
and other landscaping equipment.
• Remove trash and other debris, including leaves, from assigned zones with motorized and hand equipment.
• Assist with the development of Landscaper employees:
• Lead, mentor, and train Landscaper I and Landscaper II employees.
• Assist with ornamental and turfgrass pest diagnosis and application:
• Assist with diagnosing plant disease, pests, drought stress, and other plant needs.
• Communicate with Landscape Supervisor to schedule proper treatment needed to correct any plant needs and/or deficiencies.
• Assist with fertilizer and pesticide applications in assigned zones when necessary.
• Oversee and perform basic maintenance on landscaping equipment:
• Ensure air filters are checked and cleaned on a daily basis.
• Ensure proper fluid levels are monitored and maintained.
• Report any equipment problems to Grounds Mechanic.
• Meet and maintain training and certification requirements as outlined by the department’s training and credentialing requirements.

Minimum Requirements:

• High school education or an equivalent combination of education and years of experience
• 3 years of full-time verifiable grounds or landscaping installation, and maintenance work experience
• Working knowledge of landscaping and maintenance techniques and equipment
• Must consistently project a professional demeanor, and positive attitude, and professionally communicate with and answer inquiries from visitors and the University community
• This employee will be a regular driver as defined in the UAH Vehicle Safety Management Program, which includes, but is not limited to, possessing a valid driver’s license and maintaining an acceptable MVR in the judgment of the University’s insurance company

Desired Qualifications:

• Chemical weed, insect, and disease control knowledge is preferred
• Plant identification and care experience is desired
• Previous experience leading a team or crew is preferred

$31,000 - $35,880
