Purpose of the Position:

The Deputy Athletic Director serves as the Chief Operating Officer for UAH Athletics. The leader in this role is responsible for providing high-level administrative leadership to the entire UAH Athletics Department. This position must be highly communicative, driven by excellence, and possess a robust set of leadership characteristics. This individual must work in a team environment and exhibit a high level of organizational capacity, personnel development, integrity, perseverance, initiative, customer service focus, and solution-mindedness.
This position will serve as a vital part of the department’s senior leadership team with a primary focus on several of the department’s most essential internal operations. This individual will be a critical thought partner and decision-maker within the overall department.
Additionally, the Deputy AD will oversee the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics in the absence of the Director.
The Deputy AD works a Monday-Friday schedule, plus frequent and irregular hours associated with events.
The person in this role will be expected to represent UAH professionally in a way that aligns with the University of Alabama in Huntsville’s overall strategy & culture.

Duties/Responsibilities
• Assists the Director of Athletics in the overall management, supervision, and leadership of the department.
• Serve as second in command, and oversees the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics in the absence of the Director.
• Oversee and provide direct supervision of staff in Athletics departmental functional areas to include Head Coaches of assigned sports, office administrative support employees, facilities and events, sports performance, internal operations, athletic training, strengthening programs and sports medicine.
• Provides oversight and leadership to assigned primary intercollegiate athletics functions, including but not limited to human resources, facility operations, business operations, and risk management.
• Work closely and assist the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics in the preparation, management and maintenance of department and program Budgets to ensure sustainability and stability in compliance with University policy and procedures.
• Serve as the Department Healthcare Administrator.
• Advises the Director on numerous fronts, including but not limited to, Long-range/strategic planning initiatives, departmental policies/procedures development and execution, resource planning, allocation, and management, and personnel matters within the department.
• Partner with various campus partners including Academic Affairs, Admissions and Financial Aid as well as internal and external constituents.
• Represent the University at appropriate Conference, NCAA and university meetings.
• Oversee all related special projects.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and years of experience
• Eight or more years of related experience or equivalent combination of pertinent education, training, and experience
• Five or more years of professional staff supervisory experience in an intercollegiate athletics department context
• Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with multiple interests in a collegiate, civic, or private business setting
• Must have excellent oral, collaborative, and interpersonal communication skills
• Knowledge of intercollegiate athletic programs, rules, and regulations
• Demonstrable effective organizational skills are required
• Must be willing and able to travel
• Must be able to work flexible working hours including nights and weekends
• Must have a valid driver’s license with the ability to be insured to drive college vehicles are required

Desired Qualifications:

• Graduate degree in Sports Administration, Business Administration or a health related field is preferred
• Rich experience in strategic planning processes is desired
• Experience as a senior-level athletic administrator at an NCAA institution is preferred

Published Salary (if available):

$85,000-$100,000
