The RN supports preventive care, acute and chronic condition management, health promotion, and population-specific education. This role includes performing and maintaining quality standards for an in-office CLIA-waived laboratory, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and contributing to a safe, inclusive, and culturally responsive healthcare environment.Duties/ResponsibilitiesPrimary Care & College Health Nursing:• Provide direct nursing care to students, faculty, and staff in an outpatient primary care setting.• Perform patient intake, health histories, vital signs, and focused assessments.• Administer medications, injections, Tb testing, and immunizations per provider orders and standing protocols.• Perform minor medical procedures, including ear lavages, electrocardiograms (ECGs), wound care, venipunctures and specimen collection in accordance with nursing standards and clinic protocols.• Assist healthcare providers with examinations, procedures, and treatments.• Provide triage services for walk-in, scheduled, and telephone encounters.• Perform in-office X-ray imaging procedures following clinic protocols and safety standards, with required training provided as needed.• Support management of common acute illnesses, minor injuries, and stable chronic conditions.Health Promotion & Preventive Care:• Support campus-based preventive health initiatives (e.g., immunization compliance, screenings, wellness programs).• Deliver age-appropriate and developmentally appropriate patient education, including preventive care, wellness, health maintenance, communicable disease prevention, sexual health, and self-management.CLIA-Waived Laboratory Responsibilities:• Perform CLIA-waived in-office blood and laboratory testing (e.g., urinalysis, rapid strep, pregnancy tests, COVID/flu testing, basic hematology and chemistry analyses) in accordance with established procedures.• Ensure proper specimen collection, handling, labeling, storage, and disposal.• Accurately document laboratory results in the electronic health record (EHR).• Conduct and document quality control (QC) testing per CLIA requirements.• Monitor laboratory supplies, test kits, reagents, and expiration dates.• Adhere to CLIA, OSHA, infection control, and campus safety standards.• Communicate abnormal or critical results promptly to the provider.Care Coordination & Clinic Operations:• Coordinate referrals, follow-up care, and diagnostic testing as directed.• Track the status of diagnostic testing and assist providers with follow-up of abnormal findings.• Follow up with patients to evaluate treatment effectiveness, monitor changes in health status or reactions to treatment, and update the electronic health record accordingly.• Provide guidance, training, and day-to-day support to student workers and collaborate closely with the Medical Assistant to support clinic operations.• Collaborate with providers, counseling services, and campus partners as appropriate.• Support efficient clinic flow, patient access to care, and patient advocacy throughout the care process.• Participate in staff meetings, orientations, and continuing education.Care Coordination & Clinic Operations:• Coordinate referrals, follow-up care, and diagnostic testing as directed.• Track the status of diagnostic testing and assist providers with follow-up of abnormal findings.• Follow up with patients to evaluate treatment effectiveness, monitor changes in health status or reactions to treatment, and update the electronic health record accordingly.• Provide guidance, training, and day-to-day support to student workers and collaborate closely with the Medical Assistant to support clinic operations.• Collaborate with providers, counseling services, and campus partners as appropriate.• Support efficient clinic flow, patient access to care, and patient advocacy throughout the care process.• Participate in staff meetings, orientations, and continuing education. Minimum Requirements: • Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in Alabama.
