The Landscaper II is a key member of the UAH Facilities & Operations department, which is responsible for the planning, design, construction, renovation, maintenance, and repair of each of the University’s 90+ buildings and 500 acres. Under the direct supervision of a Landscaper III, this individual performs a variety of intermediate landscape functions to maintain and improve UAH grounds and landscape.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Participate in the installation, care, and maintenance of campus turfgrass and landscaping:
• Perform a variety of intermediate landscape-related duties on campus landscaping, including but not limited to proper plant placement and installation, sod installation, skilled pruning of trees, plants, and shrubs, mechanical weed management, landscape bed edging, and mulching.
• When necessary, maintain campus turfgrass areas by mowing, trimming, edging, and blowing.
• Safely operate heavy equipment, including tractors, backhoes, sweepers, and forklifts. Safely operate task utility vehicles, dump trucks, and other landscaping equipment.
• Remove trash and other debris, including leaves, from assigned zones with motorized and hand equipment.

Perform basic maintenance on landscaping equipment:
• Check and clean air filters, tools, and landscape equipment, etc., on a daily basis.
• Monitor and maintain proper fluid levels.
• Report any equipment problems to Landscaper III.

Department and Campus Support:
• Assist with the development of Landscaper employees.
• Mentor and assist in the training of Landscaper I employees.
• Assist with campus moves, setups, and special events.

• High school education or an equivalent combination of education and years of experience.
• Minimum of 2 years of full-time verifiable grounds or Landscaping installation and maintenance work experience.
• Working knowledge of landscaping and maintenance techniques and equipment.
• Must consistently project a professional demeanor and positive attitude, and professionally communicate with and answer inquiries from visitors and the University community.
• Must have a valid driver's license.
• This employee will be a regular driver as defined in the UAH Vehicle Safety Management Program, which includes but is not limited to possessing a valid driver’s license and maintaining an acceptable MVR in the judgment of the University’s insurance company.

• Previous experience working in medium to large complex organizations in landscaping installation and maintenance is desired.

$16.50 an hour
