Purpose of the Position:

The University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) is seeking a Risk Management Analyst I to support our institution in identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks. The Risk Management Analyst will play a vital role in safeguarding the institution and promoting a culture of safety and risk awareness.

The Risk Management Analyst will be responsible for insurance claims management (property, auto, work-related, etc.), accident and incident investigations, and administration of the on-the-job injury program, and will conduct risk assessments as needed. This vital position will provide awareness and policy training for risk management and on-the-job safety matters.

Duties / Responsibilities:

Occupational Injury Claims Management:
• Work with employees, supervisors, health care providers, and insurers to manage the university's occupational injury program.
Risk Analysis, Documentation, and Reporting:
• Maintain comprehensive records and reports related to insurance costs, insurance claims, occupational injury claims, incident reports and investigations, and other risk-related matters. Collect and analyze risk data to evaluate the impact and probability of identified risks, and produce reports to facilitate informed decision-making.
Enterprise Risk Management:
• Identify potential risks across various areas of the institution, including but not limited to operations, motor vehicle use, and on-the-job safety.
Insurance and Claims Management:
• Assist in managing the institution's insurance portfolio, including policy renewals, claims, and ensuring adequate and appropriate coverage.
Risk Assessment:
• Assist in identifying potential risks across various areas of the institution, including but not limited to life-safety, operations, motor vehicle use, and emergency planning.
Training and Awareness:
• Deliver training and other outreach programs to promote risk-awareness and compliance relating to on-the-job safety among faculty and staff as requested.
Documentation and Reporting:
• Maintain comprehensive records and reports related to insurance costs, insurance claims, occupational injury claims, incident reports and investigations, and other risk-related matters.
Incident Investigation:
• Day-to-day management of the Vehicle Safety Management Program policy, including MVR reviews and driver training compliance reviews.
• Participate in incident investigations and work with relevant departments to identify incident root causes and develop corrective action and/or risk mitigation plans.
• Maintain relevant certifications as required by the position, with support from UAH.
• Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in a related field, such as Risk Management, Business Administration, Emergency Management, Occupational Health and Safety, or a related discipline; or an equivalent combination of education and years of experience.
• 2-3 years of full-time verifiable work experience in risk management, insurance, or a related field.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess and interpret data effectively.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the capability to communicate complex concepts in a clear and understandable manner.
• Knowledge of risk management frameworks and methodologies.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• The ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
• The ability to obtain a Certified Risk Manager or Associate in Risk Management certification within 12 months of hire.

Desired Qualifications:

• Master's degree in a related field, such as Risk Management, Emergency Management, Occupational Health and Safety, or a related discipline, is preferred.
• Prior claims management (property or auto) is desired.
• Prior work-related injury claims management is preferred.
• Prior experience in the higher education sector is desired.
• Current CRM or ARM Certification is desired.

$62,000 - $67,000
